Getting ready to go

Yellowknife, Northwest Territories, Canada Latitude:62° 30'North Longitude:114° 29'West

Our cast is getting closer to leaving the comfort of a suburban house on a street full of friends and friendly neighbours and heading off to the unknown.

Chloe (10) is ambivalent about the trip. She says, "I do not want to leave Yellowknife. I did not decide to go to Bali. But I have to leave all of my friends here and start all over and find new friends. It's not going to be easy, but I'll live."

Ava (8) says "I am very excited about going to Bali. But I will miss my friends."

Maia (3), well, she still just rolls with whatever's happening. Daily she asks when she's going to Bali and loves to look at You Tube and see monkeys  in Bali.

The plan:
  • January 1st, drive from Yellowknife, NWT to Vancouver BC.
  • January 6th: fly from Vancouver to Bali
  • January to June: live in Bali near Ubud where the children will attend a new international school called Green School. http://www.greenschool.org/
  • June 21st: fly from Bali to Vancouver
  • July and August: Summer on the West Coast. The usual favourites of Saltspring Island, Lund and Savary Island and possibly a road trip.
  • September: Return to Yellowknife...

Getting ready to go:

    • 13 days
    • One more goodbye slumber party (one down, one to go)
    • Pajama Fairy party (it's a Yellowknife thing)
    • Lots of wonderful socializing with friends
    • eight work days
    • loads of seasonal baking and wrapping
    • piles of sorting and preparing the house for tenants
    • Five Indonesian visas (we're optimistic, yet uneasy)
    • and yes, packing, packing, packing!
No problem! With the great help of our kids, our caregiver, and Mom (flying in from BC for a planned last minute rescue) we'll be ready.
